How to Stuff a Burger

Burgers are one of the majestic grilled foods that just seem to keep getting better. My grillfriend’s newest burger obsession? Stuffed burgers. That’s right, stuffed. As in... a flavor explosion in every bite. As in... oozing (yes oozing) melty cheesy goodness.

They are delicious, and if done right have a delightful and tasty surprise in every bite. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll be enjoying your own version of the stuffed burger in no time.

To make these bacon and cheese stuffed burgers you will need:

  • 1-1/2 lbs ground chuck
  • 1cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • Fork
  • Wax paper (optional)

Step 1: Begin by prepping all of your ingredients.

Cook the bacon thoroughly and once cooled, crumble into pieces

Divide the ground chuck into 8 equal portions and shape into round patties, using a fork to flatten. Each patty should be approximately 3 ounces of meat and measure about 4 inches in diameter. Put the finished patties on wax paper

Step 2: Stack your burger

Place ¼ cup of cheese and ¼ cup of the crumbled bacon onto 4 of the patties.

Place the remaining patties on top so that you have created a meat sandwich of sorts. Each burger should be layered: patty – cheese – bacon - patty

Use wax paper if needed to help position the top patty.

Step 3: Seal the edges with a fork

Make sure that no cheese or bacon is visible. All of it should be concealed in between the two patties.

Step 4: Grill to desired doneness

How you like your burger cooked depends on how long you should leave it on the grill. However, stuffed burgers are best grilled over medium heat. This temperature allows the filling to heat all the way through without overcooking your meat.

Step 5: Eat and enjoy

Once your burger is cooked, remove it from the grill and add your favorite condiments and sauces then go ahead and take a bite. It’s going to be delicious.

The great thing about stuffed burgers is that the options are limitless. Try switching out the stuffing with your favorite burger toppings. Some popular favorites are using swiss cheese in turkey burgers or making stuffed black and blue burgers.
